It's time for a REVIVAL…

A few weeks ago, a student asked me why we decided to name this magazine Revive! I was grateful for the question and the opportunity to share with the class the purpose, meaning, and reason behind Revive! Revive! Omaha Magazine is the result of a lifelong walk towards fulfilling the call that God has on our lives.

In the first edition of the magazine, we presented these words: Why Revive? Revive means coming back to life. Revive means returning to those things that are truly most important. Revive means reconnecting with neighbors. Revive means bringing back the faith, spirit, and passion that we once had. Read more…

All of us know that a crack in the foundation of a building is not a good sign. Typically the cause needs to be examined and repairs will need to be made to correct the crack before it spreads and gets worse. Foundation cracks may be caused by a lack of footings, improper concrete installation, heavy vehicles sitting on the surface, settling, roots growing underground, shifting ground, water problems, or insufficient backfill. Left untreated the crack can spread, get worse, weaken the foundation, and potentially cause a lot of money for repairs later. Cracks can appear in concrete foundations, walls, floors, or driveways.

Recently I had a small crack in my drive way on the side of the house. The crack was about four inches in length. Each day as I drove across the crack I said “this needs to be repaired before it gets worse”. Time went by and the small, four inch, crack began to grow. I did not notice the growth at first because it was subtle. Over time the crack grew to be unsightly, more than four feet in length, and an inch wide. I had waited too long and the problem had become worse. The crack was so big that it was embarrassing. I made sure that it was repaired.

In life we too can have cracks in our foundation. Cracks appear in our mind, body, and spirit. These cracks become visible as a bad attitude, bullying others, being mean spirited or jealous. Noted comedian George Carlin stated it very well. “The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less; we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families; more conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees but less sense; more knowledge, but less judgment; more experts, yet more problems; more medicine, but less wellness.
